There are three elements of Muay Thai boxing: techniques, tactics and strategy. Most Muay Thai books deal only with techniques. Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is the first book to reveal actual fighting strategies and tactics as taught in the boxing camps in Thailand. Both the author of this book, Mark Van Schuyver, and his partner in this project, Kru Pedro Villalobos, are martial artists. In fact, Villalobos is a professional Muay Thai fighter and trainer who has studied extensively in Thailand with some of the art's most well-known names. And in helping Van Schuyver with this book, Villalobos held back none of the secrets he had picked up in Thailand. Because the elements of timing and the strategies of the Muay Thai system are universal to all types of fighting, this book will be invaluable to Muay Thai fighters and trainers, professional and amateur fighters, and martial artists of all styles, including taekwon do, karate, jujitsu, judo, and no-holds-barred fighting and wrestling. The definitive work on Muay Thai strategies and tactics, Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is a guide to total fight preparation.

In this memorable exploit from a master storyteller, Tristan Jones takes on the infamous Kra Peninsula which divides the Andaman Sea from the Gulf of Thailand. Determined once again to perform a feat that others have tried and failed to accomplish, Jones makes his way through this short but exceedingly difficult passage in a small seagoing fishing boat. Accompanied by his German mate, Thomas, and three disabled Thai youths, Jones faces floating debris, homemade dams, mechanical failure and precariously low funds. But whether encountering a raucous band of teenage monks or navigating a dry riverbed by hitching onto an elephant, Jones exhibits the awesome stubborness and courage of a man willing to sacrifice all comforts for the unknown and seemingly impossible.

The primary audience for this report is managers involved with the highest levels of the strategic planning process, and consultants who help their clients with this task. The user will not only benefit from the hundreds of hours that went into the methodology and its application, but also from its alternative perspective on strategic planning in Thailand.
This report helps executives evaluate strategic investment and entry alternatives in Thailand. In order to evaluate Thailand, Icon Group International, Inc. draws on a methodology developed by Professor Philip Parker at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. The methodology decomposes a country's strategic potential along two key dimensions: (1) latent demand, and (2) accessibility. A country may have very high latent demand, yet have low accessibility, making it a less attractive market than many smaller potential countries having higher levels of accessibility.
This report provides a strategic profile of Thailand along these lines. Throughout the discussion, literally hundreds of statistics on Thailand are benchmarked against regional and global averages. The reader can thus quickly understand where Thailand fits into the regional and global perspective. The report first investigates the economic fundamentals affecting Thailand. These fundamentals are the source for Thailand's latent demand. Then, the subsequent chapters detail Thailand's accessibility. This evaluation covers a number of entry alternatives, including export strategies, and local direct investment strategies. If a firm decides to have a local presence in Thailand, this requires a strategic understanding of local business conditions. The conditions investigated in this report include local marketing (advertising, distribution, pricing issues) and entry strategies (opening an office, joint venturing, etc.), as well as human resources management (labor laws, costs, regulations). Because...

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars in Thailand face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars to Thailand? How important is Thailand compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars vary from one country of origin to another in Thailand? On the supply side, Thailand also exports new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars. Which countries receive the most exports from Thailand? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars in Thailand. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars for those countries serving Thailand via exports, or supplying from Thailand via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Thailand fits into the world market for imported and exported new pneumatic rubber tires for cars, station wagons, and racing cars. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Thailand in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Thailand is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Thailand compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.
