Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) A uniquely relaxing yet energizing way to achieve balance and healing.

Traditional Thai massage is a dynamic yet comparatively little-known form of bodywork that combines elements of acupressure, stretching, reflexology, the application of herbal compresses, prayer, and meditation. This therapy has benefits for anyone-young or old, active or inactive, healthy or not. Sometimes called "lazy man's yoga," it stretches the muscles, increases the joints' range of motion, and balances the flow of energy throughout the body to promote healing and well-being.

Thai Massage provides fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions that enable the reader to use this integrative and interactive therapy (with a partner) at home. It also explains the history and philosophy behind the techniques and discusses their connections with Buddhist thought and practice, yoga, Ayurveda, the body's energy lines, and acupressure. It is a complete guide to an ancient practice that benefits body, mind, and spirit.

Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai: Secrets of Thailand's Boxing Camps
Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai: Secrets of Thailand's Boxing Camps There are three elements of Muay Thai boxing: techniques, tactics and strategy. Most Muay Thai books deal only with techniques. Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is the first book to reveal actual fighting strategies and tactics as taught in the boxing camps in Thailand. Both the author of this book, Mark Van Schuyver, and his partner in this project, Kru Pedro Villalobos, are martial artists. In fact, Villalobos is a professional Muay Thai fighter and trainer who has studied extensively in Thailand with some of the art's most well-known names. And in helping Van Schuyver with this book, Villalobos held back none of the secrets he had picked up in Thailand. Because the elements of timing and the strategies of the Muay Thai system are universal to all types of fighting, this book will be invaluable to Muay Thai fighters and trainers, professional and amateur fighters, and martial artists of all styles, including taekwon do, karate, jujitsu, judo, and no-holds-barred fighting and wrestling. The definitive work on Muay Thai strategies and tactics, Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is a guide to total fight preparation.

The Traffic in Women: Human Realities of the International Sex Trade (Global Issues)
The Traffic in Women: Human Realities of the International Sex Trade (Global Issues)
This moving but unemotional account of the rapidly-expanding international traffic in women reveals it as a global issue. Using original, carefully-documented field studies from Thailand, it explores the nature and extent of the problem worldwide. It demonstrates how the traffic in women and forced prostitution are aspects of transnational migration, now estimated to involve 70 million people worldwide. As forms of slavery, they are also grave violations of human rights. Avoiding rhetorical condemndation and simplistic solutions, the book shows how women themselves can be empowered to end the traffic and ends with detailed recommendations for change.

Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys: Male and Female Homosexualities in Contemporary Thailand
Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys: Male and Female Homosexualities in Contemporary Thailand Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys: Male and Female Homosexualities in Contemporary Thailand offers methods that will help social workers, researchers, and students create HIV/AIDS intervention services for gay men, lesbians, and transgender individuals in or from Thailand. Many of these methods can also be used by practitioners or HIV/AIDS educators in North America and developing countries to address issues of culturally diverse clientele. In response to Western and Thai sexuality studies that fail to accurately represent the diverse sexualities of Thailand, this book discusses and describes certain factors that need to be taken into consideration when developing intervention programs. Demonstrating how cultural and social factors influence services, Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys will help you provide clients with effective and relevant services. Drawing attention to Eurocentric ideology that may hinder cross-cultural collaboration for Thai-Western service provisions, this book offers you information that will help you understand how cultural, political, and economic systems shape sexuality and gender roles in Thai society.

Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys provides you with the necessary knowledge for providing successful services, including:-how Thai sexualities are identified by examining the meaning of terms such as "toms" (masculine Thai lesbians), "dee" (feminine-identified women who have relations with other women), "kathoey" (males that dress like women and wear makeup), or "lady boys" (transsexual or transvestite males) -how Thai society actually defines "having sex" and recognizing the differences from Western connotations of sex to effectively teach individuals about the risk of HIV/AIDS-ways Western views of confidentiality and privacy differ from Thai views in order to understand why individuals hesitate to get tested for or seek counselling about HIV/AIDS-the relationship between occupation and sexual identity in movies and magazines that reveal how sexuality is characterized in Thailand-the unique social identity of "toms" and how Thai society labels what is masculine and feminine-reasons for hiding sexual identity, such as rejection, fear of stereotypes, and having a relationship that is viewed by society as wrong and meaningless-protecting commercial sex workers (CSW) from infection by developing culturally appropriate interventions. One of the only books to address HIV/AIDS issues of gay and transgender individuals in Thailand, Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys will help you increase awareness about HIV/AIDS and create successful intervention programs for clients.

    Paradise Lust
    Paradise Lust
“The moment a Thai lady smiles at you, you know there is a heaven and that it is here in Thailand.” —Kit McCann

This is a true and candid story of Thailand’s sex industry, a story that has never been told from the inside. And here it appears even more outrageous than rumors and myths suggest. It’s the story of the world’s Disneyland of red-light districts, a place where even the moist, warm air feels sexy. Kit McCann, author and confessed sex tourist, charts his own uninhibited rake’s progress through this moonscape of sex and lust, which he knows like the back of his own hand.

Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth (Human Sexuality) (Human Sexuality)
Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth (Human Sexuality) (Human Sexuality) Get a detailed look at the Thai sex/gender system--through analysis of the personal stories from transgendered youth in Thailand

The Thai term sao braphet song (a "second type of woman") describes males who reject the gender of masculinity for femininity. Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth uses the narrative method, stories in the words of these "second type of women" to analyze these transgendered experiences. This previously ignored perspective of the Thai sex/gender system gained through this theoretical and methodological approach offers students and general readers a rich, more readily accessible foundation of knowledge about gendered subjectivity and sex/gender systems.

Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth features in-depth, autobiographical life histories from individual Thai transgendered youth. Life stories, told in the participants' own words, provides an engaging, at times touching, always insightful look at Thai culture's sex/gender system. The authors then expertly analyze the narratives to illuminate common themes and constructions within this group, allowing an opportunity for contrast and discussion on transgender experiences in other nations.

Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth analyzes the major themes in the stories, including:

    identities
    definitions and descriptive labels
    etiologies of sao braphet song-ness
    the notion of acceptance
narrator motivations for participating in the project

Male Bodies, Women's Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand's Transgendered Youth is illuminating, reflective reading for educators, undergraduate students, graduate students, researchers, or anyone interested in discovering more about transgenderism in a specific cultural context.

War in the Blood: Sex, Politics and AIDS in Southeast Asia
War in the Blood: Sex, Politics and AIDS in Southeast Asia
This engaging and vivid book investigates the course of the HIV epidemic in seven countries of South East Asia: Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam and China’s Yunnan Province. Emphasising the impact of the cultural and political landscapes of these countries on the progress of the disease, the book is the product of both working and travelling in the area. Not merely a commentary on obfuscating government statistics, the author draws upon his encounters with people dealing with the effects of the epidemic and opponents of the regimes of the countries he describes. The epidemic is seen as being vitally linked to the general condition of human rights in the societies.

In the first part of the book the author travels to each country in turn chronicling the different approaches adopted to the epidemic. The second part covers issues involving specific groups at risk - among other topics, women and contraception, prostitution and the traffic in women, HIV and the US military, the Heroin trade, gay sex workers, prisoners, and the work of local activists. The third part of the book looks at policy and the general effect of culture on public health care, stressing the need for local empowerment of populations, and in particular women, to effect social changes that would go hand in hand with improvements in the handling of the HIV epidemic. Both passionate and well-informed, this book is a labour of love that discusses the HIV epidemic while giving an intimate, and ultimately celebratory account of South East Asia and asserting the real possiblity for affirmative action.

The 2007 Import and Export Market for Pressure-Reducing Valves in Thailand
The 2007 Import and Export Market for Pressure-Reducing Valves in Thailand On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on pressure-reducing valves in Thailand face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying pressure-reducing valves to Thailand? How important is Thailand compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of pressure-reducing valves vary from one country of origin to another in Thailand? On the supply side, Thailand also exports pressure-reducing valves. Which countries receive the most exports from Thailand? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for pressure-reducing valves in Thailand. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for pressure-reducing valves for those countries serving Thailand via exports, or supplying from Thailand via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Thailand fits into the world market for imported and exported pressure-reducing valves. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Thailand in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Thailand is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Thailand compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.
